Traditional Pizza Base

Pizza is a worldwide food which originated in southern Italy. My favourite topping is mushroom and chorizo, but be limited only by your imagination. Try one of these combinations: Mozzerella, anchovies, capers and garlic, Ham, mushroom and olive or prawn, tuna, capers and garlic.

For 2 people

  • 200 g strong white flour (bread flour)
  • salt
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 pkt fast action yeast
  • 125 ml milk
  • 1 tbs oil

Traditional Pizza Base Directions

  1. 1. Combine the flour, salt, sugar and yeast together.
  3. 2. Heat together the milk and oil. You are aiming for blood temperature, so if you dip your finger into the liquid it should neither feel hot nor cold.
  5. Make a well in the centre of the flour and gradually pour in the milk, mixing. Turn onto a floured surface and knead until smooth. Leave covered in a warm place for about an hour until the dough has doubled in size.
  7. 3. Remove, lightly knead then thinly roll out to size.
  9. 4. Add the topping of your choice and bake.
  11. Bake at 220 degrees C in a pre-heated oven

  12. Do make sure you do not use toppings such as tomato slices which are too juicy and would make the pizza base soggy.
