Lemon Vodka

Balmy summer evenings are a perfect setting for sipping ice cold Lemon Vodka. It's flavour is pungent citrus and not too sweet - outstripping any commercial brand. Made with a supermarket brand of vodka for the base, Lemon Vodka is surprisingly inexpensive and easy to make, but strictly for the grown-ups!

For 1 Batch(es)

  • 125 g sugar
  • 1 x 70 cl bottle vodka
  • 4 unwaxed lemons
  • 1 x cleanand empty 1ltr. bottle

Lemon Vodka Directions

  1. 1. Measure the sugar into a large measuring jug (1ltr.). Pour in the vodka.
  2. 2. With the aid of a zester *, pare the lemon zest and add to the vodka. I like to do this over the jug which captures the mist of lemon oil. Stir to dissolve the sugar (a plastic chop stick is good for this).
  3. 3. Pour into a clean 1ltr bottle, shaking for the first few days, to ensure all the sugar has evenly dissolved. Leave for a month in a cool dark cupboard.
  4. Serve ice cold from the freezer.
  7. * a zester is a really useful tool to use with citrus fruit. It literally removed the outer skin (zest), leaving behind the bitter white layer. If you do not have a zester, carefully use the fine side of a grater.
