Creamy Peppered Rye

This is a great instant canapé when those unexpected guests turn up - you can prepare a plateful in moments and use whatever garnishes you happen to have in the fridge or cupboard. I have used julienne of smoked salmon with tiny jewel-like slices of ripe fig.

  • rye bread (the pre-sliced dark type)
  • cream cheese, such as Boursin
  • slice of smoked salmon
  • thin slivers of fresh fig

Creamy Peppered Rye Directions

  1.  Evenly spread the cream cheese over the rye bread. Trim all the crusts. Cut into individual squares (4 x 3) and garnish with the salmon and fig.
  2. This looks pretty if the serving plate is garnished with lambs leaf lettuce. You should be able to get 12 canapé from 1 slice of rye.
