Roman Salad

Easy salad which keeps well for a couple of days in the fridge.

For 4 people


  • 1 small white cabbage, shredded
  • 0.5 cup sesame seeds, toasted
  • 2 packs oriental instant noodles (including seasoning, preferably chicken)
  • 2 spring (green) onions, chopped
  • 0.5 cup sliced almonds or blanched peanuts
  • 2 tbs butter
  • 0.5 cup salad oil (a light vegetable oil)
  • 0.25 cup wine vinegar
  • 1 tbs soya sauce
  • 0.5 cup sugar

Roman Salad Directions

  1. 1. Break up the noodles and brown in a pan with the sesame seeds and almonds - you can either dry-roast them or use butter.
  2. 2. Add the seasoning from the instant noodles.
  3. 3. Mix together the shredded cabbage and chopped onions and place in a serving dish.
  4. 4. Whisk together the dressing ingredients and drizzle over the cabbage mixture.
  5. 5. Add the dry, crunchy mix to the salad just before serving.

  6. You can add cooked chicken to make into a main dish.
