King Prawns Portuguese Style

When I am in Portugal, I go out of my way to visit my favourite restaurant there. The food is amazing and the menu is full of mouthwatering fish dishes, which inspired me to come up with this one.

Preparation time 10 minutes, cooking time 8 minutes.

For 4 people


  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 25g unsalted butter
  • 8 raw king prawns, cleaned and butterflied
  • 6 garlic cloves, finely chopped
  • 3 dry chillies, crushed
  • 1 bunch spring onions, trimmed and finely chopped
  • 3 tablespoons dry white wine
  • 2 lemons
  • bread to serve

King Prawns Portuguese Style Directions

  1. Heat the oil and butter in a large frying pan, adding the butterflied prawns and cook 3-4 minutes until they become a nice pink colour. Add the garlic, chilli and spring onions and cook for 3 minutes, then add the white wine and juice of 1 lemon, continue cooking until the liquid has evaporated. Cut the other lemon into wedges. Serve the prawns with garlic bread and lemon wedges.
